Senua’s Saga: Hellbalde 2 has a release date of May 21, 2024. It is available on Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, and PC via Steam. Although players can currently preorder the game, there are no preorder bonuses to speak of for the game.

Similar to the first game, Hellblade 2 is a third-person action-adventure game. It brings over some gameplay elements from the first game, such as puzzle-solving, runes, and the infamous permadeath system.

The game’s combat system carries over from the previous game, with an emphasis on dodging and parrying enemy attacks. This is important since, as mentioned above, death in this game does have some severe consequences. Those who have played the first game will find this combat very familiar, but still a bit harder.

Hellblade 2 will also feature dynamic weather systems and realistic physics, which not only makes the game look different but will also affect combat and exploration. For example, strong rain would make exploration harder, or snow could make the player slip if they are not careful.

Also carried over from the previous game is the psychosis that the game’s main character struggles with. That means a return of the previous game’s psychological horror elements. Players will experience the same psychosis that Senua struggled with in the first game.

This includes hearing voices, seeing dark, twisted images, and more. Players will have to keep their cool as they explore Senua’s dark mind and the darkness that hides inside her.

As mentioned above, this sequel does carry over the “permadeath” feature of the previous game, in that the more Senua dies, the more the curse spreads throughout their body. It is unknown, however, how similar this permadeath is to the original game’s (which was actually a bluff of sorts).

Senua’s Saga: Hellbalde 2, like its predecessor, follows the story of the titular Senua after the events of the first game. After defeating the goddess Hela, and accepting the Furies inside of her, Senua continues to hunt down the Vikings who raided her village and sacrificed her lover.

Players must help Senua track said Vikings down, all while continuing to fight against the voices she hears.
