ESPN analyst bizarrely compares Dak Prescott's situation to 'The Bachelorette'

Some have wondered if the news is simply smoke and mirrors by team owner Jerry Jones while others believe it’s the end of the Prescott era in Dallas. ESPN analyst Ryan Clark is among the latter, suggesting the Cowboys think they can do better than Prescott while comparing their perceived breakup to hit reality TV show “The Bachelorette.”

“When you get that quarterback, and you lock into that marriage, that is your person,” Clark said. “You’re never going to sit at home and one day tell your person, ‘You can go on ‘The Bachelorette.’ I don’t love you enough to lock you in.’ … Jerry Jones has said that next year, we’re going to let [Prescott] go on ‘The Bachelorette’ because I can do bad all by myself.”

Clark will likely lose most people with his bizarre metaphor, but his underlying point does have merit.

If Jones was sold on Prescott’s ability to lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl, there is no way he would even consider letting the veteran signal-caller hit the open market. Quarterbacks are getting paid at a premium in the modern NFL, though. The money Prescott would likely command (roughly $50.8M per year according to Spotrac) could be better used by Jones to build up the rest of his roster.

Given the success the San Francisco 49ers have had over the last two seasons investing heavily on defense and offensive skill positions while paying a quarterback peanuts on a rookie deal, one has to wonder if Jones is thinking of doing something similar with the Cowboys.
