2025 Illinois Football Quarterback Commit Top-3 at Rivals Camp

According to the Orange and Blue News X account (@IllinoisRivals), Illinois commit Carson Boyd has finished top-3 at the Rivals camp series in Indianapolis. Boyd is a 3-star quarterback from Cardinal Ritter High School in St. Louis, who pledged his commitment to the Illini back in January (2024). According to 24/7 Sports, he is a top 50 passer in the nation in the class of 2025. On Sunday, Boyd put his high-level skills to the test in Indy while competing amongst some of the top high school football prospects in the Midwest. Through a series of drills and competitive 7-on-7, it was determined that Carson was one of the top quarterbacks at the event.

Certainly, this is good news indeed for Illinois Football OC Barry Lunney Jr. The future Illini gunslinger has assisted Cardinal Ritter to repeat Missouri football State Championships, as well as undefeated seasons (28-0) in 2022 and 2023.  In addition, Boyd passed for 2,224 yards and 29 touchdowns through the air, while also rushing for 576 yards and six scores on the ground during the 2023 season. Talk about Dual-threat…

Looking Forward

Boyd will seemingly join a young, yet promising quarterback room in Illinois football. Donovan Leary, Trey Petty, and Cal Swanson all have impressive and unique traits as QB’s. With no proven experience all around, the competition at QB after Luke Altmyer will be a Wild West. Overall, Bret Bielema and Barry Lunney have increased the floor of the Illinois QB room. All QBs in the room have proven power-five traits with impressive futures ahead. As a result, it will be interesting who wins the QB job after Luke Altmyer leaves.
